Sue Devito, clarinet, joined the Jaenicke Consort in 1992. She also plays flute with the group when instrumentation calls for two flutes. She received her undergraduate degree from DePauw University and earned her Master of Music degree in clarinet performance from Indiana University, where she studied with Henry Gulick. Other teachers include Jerome Stowell, assistant principal and Eb clarinet of the Chicago Symphony.

Although Sue enjoys performing, her primary love is teaching. Her teaching positions include elementary music, middle school band and strings in the Elgin and Schaumburg school districts in Illinois and also in Fort Wayne Community Schools. She has maintained a private woodwind studio in Illinois and Indiana since graduating from college, and was granted a teaching assistantship in clarinet at Indiana University while working on her masters degree.

Sue’s playing experience, in addition to the Jaenicke Consort, includes playing principal clarinet in the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, several seasons with the orchestra for Purdue Indiana Theater in Fort Wayne playing clarinet and saxophone, Wagon Wheel Theatre in Warsaw Indiana and membership in the Nagano Trio playing clarinet and flute. She has also been church pianist for several years and accompanies her own private students at competitions. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda music honorary.

Sue has held an adjunct staff position as clarinet instructor at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana, as well as teaching woodwinds privately in the Allen, Whitley and Noble counties of Indiana. During the school year, she enjoys working with woodwind sections at various high schools in the Fort Wayne area.
